A Life of Faith, Identity, and Purpose
Lotan Matewere is a pastor, children and young people’s worker, basketball coach, and writer with over 20 years of experience serving across Africa and the West. His journey has been shaped by a deep commitment to service, faith, and helping others discover purpose in an often confusing and fast-changing world.
hrough ministry, mentoring, sport, and community engagement, he has dedicated much of his life to supporting young people and families as they seek direction, belonging, and hope.
His work has been formed through years of practical leadership, relationship building, and faith-based service in diverse cultural settings. These experiences have given him a deep understanding of people, identity, and the everyday challenges individuals and communities face. Whether in churches, schools, sports environments, or community spaces, Lotan’s passion has remained the same: helping people recognise their worth and live with confidence and purpose.
As a writer, Lotan explores themes of identity, faith, youth development, resilience, and church belonging. With a thoughtful and honest voice, he reflects on the pressures that shape how people see themselves and how they search for meaning, direction, and connection. He is particularly interested in the complexities of personal identity and spiritual growth within modern societies increasingly influenced by forces that can confuse, distort, and misdirect a healthy sense of self.
His latest work, Black, Male & Christian: How Must I Then Breathe?, is a courageous and reflective exploration of identity at the intersection of race, faith, and manhood. Shaped by lived experience and grounded in a steadfast belief in the grace of God, the book invites readers to think deeply about being, belonging, and believing in today’s world.
Alongside ministry and writing, Lotan has also been actively involved in sport, using basketball as a tool for mentoring, discipline, leadership, and youth empowerment. He believes sport can open doors, build confidence, and help young people develop values that carry into every area of life.
Lotan holds qualifications in Biblical Studies, Working for Children and Young People, and Sports Coaching.
Lotan lives in the Rhondda Valleys of South Wales with his wife Trisa, and together they have three children. Lotan serves as Associate Pastor at ACTS Community Church, where he continues to invest in people, community, and the work of faith.
